Stymphalian Bird

Stymphalian birds are large man-eating creatures with bronze beaks and feathers. Capable of firing their feathers at enemies, these feathers were frequently used as knives, or to be melted down for metalwork, until easier trade with goblins came about. Stymphalians are known to be highly dangerous creatures, more than willing to attack humans for food. While they are most commonly found in Greece Stymphalians have, over the years, spread elsewhere also, and do have some fixed migratory patterns. In the summer, for example, they much prefer to nest by the see, and use their feathers to maim fish, in order to attract the larger predatory fish and sharks which are their preferred food.

The dung of Stymphalians is highly toxic and can often be confused with dragon dung which has been known to have fatal effects on a crop, although it can and has been used to repel certain other magical creatures. The few feathers of Stymphalians which aren’t metal have been used in more than a few winged automatons by Artificers, and it is generally agreed that the only thing of potions use from Stymphalians is their blood, which is often collected from deceased specimens, for use in certain medicines.
