How to give proper credit to artists without knowing who they are

Sick of art going around and artists not getting proper credit at all.
bringing back because just had a run in with someone who was very rude to a friend of mine who asked them quite politely to source. the usual was said “I save these pictures from zerochan etc etc i can’t know all the source blah blah”

Luckily, we all know the source of the Gif From Hell, but since this fandom seems to be source-challenged, I’m posting this for any future controversy.
(I know the majority of you are lovely and responsible people, but you don’t know pain until you look at the Discworld tag right now.)
